The Shema

The central creed of Judaism is contained in the Shema, a prayer which is taken from the Torah. The Shema begins with these words:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

The central belief of Judaism is that there is only one God. He is the Creator and Ruler of the whole universe. God is eternal, all-knowing and all-seeing.

The Messiah and the Kingdom of God.

Jews have looked forward to the coming of God's anointed servant, the Messiah and the coming of the Kingdom of God. When He comes, God's Kingdom will be established on earth and the dead will be resurrected for the Final Judgment. For the Jews, as God's people, it will be a time of perfect peace.
