![]() Notre Dame Church of Auvers-sur-OiseThe Church of Notre Dame at Auvers-sur-Oise, France, was made famous by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.Originally it was a small chapel, built towards the end of the 11th century on land owned by the king, Phillippe I. The bell tower was built round about 1170, dominating the village below. It now houses three bells: one called Madeleine-Marie dating from 1733 and the other two from 1891. The nave, added between 1190 and 1220, was constructed in the classical Gothic style. |
