Bath Abbey

This is the abbey church of St Peter and St Paul. The accompanying monastery buildings no longer exist, apart from a part of the cloister.

The Benedictine monastery operated from c.960 until the time of Henry VIII when, in 1539, along with many other monasteries, it was dissolved.

The present building was started in 1501 and was a replacement for the previous Norman Church which had occupied the site. The architectural style is Late Perpendicular, with large areas of window space.
