![]() Salisbury CathedralWork on building the cathedral began in 1220 AD and continued for some fifty years. The architecture is of the Early English period. The tower and spire were added in the 14th century. The spire is the highest in Britain, being 404 feet in height. Sir Gilbert Scott was responsible for significant restoration work in the mid-19th century. Salisbury became the bishop's seat in 1227 AD. |
