![]() Ripon CathedralThe present building was started in the middle of the 12th century. The towers and the west front are from eighty to ninety years later. At the end of the 15th century there was further re-building following the collapse of the central tower. The nave is mostly of early 16th century date. However, the crypt survives from an earlier period, the 7th century. The cathedral has been the seat of a bishop since 1836 and is dedicated to St. Peter and to St. Wilfrid. The latter was once abbot of the monastery associated with the church. Why not visit the cathedral's website? |
