Westminster Abbey, London

Westminster Abbey is the national church of the U.K. It is just across the road from the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London.

The present church was started by Henry III in 1245, being built on the site of a much older church, which was part of a Benedictine monastery. The Western towers were added between 1739 and 1745.

One of the most significant items in the Abbey is the Coronation Chair in the Chapel of Edward the Confessor. It was designd to hold the Stone of Scone, which was the coronation stone of the kings of Scotland but which Edward I seized in 1297.
