Questions You Ask - No.3

What have the social issues and moral problems that we study for GCSE got to do with R.E.?
Moral issues are concerned with how we behave towards other people? What is right? What is wrong? Many of the social issues involve behaviour between people or groups of people. So often human behaviour is a cause of suffering or problems.

The major world religions all express a concern about suffering and all have their moral codes setting out how believers should live and behave. The monotheistic faiths (they believe that there is only one God), believe that God is absolutely good, benevolent and it is, therefore, fitting that those who believe in Him, should work to stop suffering and bring comfort and help where it exists.

These are issues that concern everyone, religious or not, but it is helpful to study the valuable contribution which religion makes to these areas.
