Martyr
A martyr is someone who has died for what he or she believes. The first Christian martyr was Stephen.
Mass
Roman Catholic term for the sacramental enactment of the sacrifice of Christ, during which it is believed that the wafer, when consecrated by the priest, becomes the Body of Christ and the wine becomes the blood of Christ. The taking of Holy Communion forms part of the ceremony.
Messiah
It is a Hebrew term which means "the Anointed One". Its Greek equivalent is Christos (Christ). Christians affirm that Jesus Christ was God's Messiah, anointed and sent to save human beings from their sin.
Orthodox Jews still look for the coming of a future Messiah to usher in a Golden Age, or a Messianic Age.
Missal
In the Roman Catholic Church, a book containing the words and order of the ceremony of the Mass.
Monotheism
The belief that there is only one God.
Meditation
Thinking about something very deeply, often in the light of the purpose of existence or the meaning of scriptural words. It is prayerful reflection.

These pages will be added to in the future. If there is a religious term or word you do not understand, why not e-mail us? It can then be added to the glossary.
