At The FitzWimarc School, we follow the new Essex Agreed Syllabus "Religious Education in Essex". This has two attainment targets for R.E.:
A central task of RE is to enable pupils to learn about Christianity and other major world religions. Pupils will develop understanding of:
Learning about religions should develop empathy in pupils, engaging their feelings and the imagination.
This area is concerned with enabling pupils to reflect on and respond to significant aspects of human experience. It is also concerned with enabling them to reflect on and respond to what they have learned about different religions.
As well as enabling pupils to make informed and thoughtful personal responses, learning from experience and religion also enables them to engage with, analyse, interpret and critically evaluate the views of others, including religious believers. Through this, pupils will learn to recognise that people see things in different ways, and respect the right of others to hold views that are different from their own.
Increasingly, as they mature, this will help pupils to clarify their personal stances in relation to a range of issues associated with religion. It will also help them in their own quests for identity, meaning and purpose, and helping them mature in respect of their own beliefs, values and attitudes.
