
IntroductionWhen we study Judaism, we tend to look at things from the perspective of Orthodox Judaism. However, you need to be aware that there are other forms of Judaism, from the ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jews to Conservative, Reform and Liberal Jews. Judaism is to be found around the world, the result of dispersion from the ancient land of Israel at the time of the Babylonian exile (from 597 and 586 BC) and subsequently following the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Today, many Jews live in Israel, but the modern State of Israel did not come into existence until 1948 when it adopted again the language of Hebrew as its national language.
