Employment Tribunal RulingSian Heard is in line for record compensation after a 'discriminatory culture' was uncovered at the City law firm where she worked. The firm routinely denied women senior partner status because 'equal opportunities were secondary to profit.' In 70 years, there has been just one senior female partner at the firm. |
Mrs Heard, a 40-year-old married mother of two from Hackney, East London, said, "The people in the firm seemed to have the view that women were not as talented as men." She and colleague Sian Fellows were made junior partners in 1997, but they failed to progress. They are now expected to receive payouts totalling nearly £7 million after an employment tribunal ruled in their favour last month. from Andrew Levy in The Daily Mail 8 January 2004 |
