The British School

This is one of the two 19th Century Schools still standing in Rayleigh. The British School, built in 1864, stands next to the Baptist Church; it was the girls' school for Rayleigh until the beginning of the 20th century.

The boys' school, the National School, stands just in front of Holy Trinity Church at the northern end of the High Street.
