Welcome to RayleighThe "Rayleigh" Town sign was donated by Rayleigh Civic Society to celebrate Essex Heritage Year in 1989. It depicts four well-known landmarks of Rayleigh: Holy Trinity Church, the Windmill, the Dutch Cottage and Rayleigh Mount (one time site of Suen's [Swein] Norman castle). Originally, the town sign was erected on the corner of Bellingham Lane and the High Street (where the clock now stands), but is now situated just outside Rayleigh Lanes Market, next to the Martyr's Memorial. |
