We have waited 122 years for this event, and some of us have grown a little impatient waiting, not to mention rather old as well.
The day, 8 June 2004, turned out to be a gloriously sunny and cloudless day, perfect for observing the transit. A pair of binoculars was set up on a tripod, appropriately shielded to provide a good shadow on the screen where the image of the sun was being projected.
A reasonably good image was obtained and duly photographed. Although a little hazy in appearance, this picture shows the situation at approximately 8.45 - 9.00 am.
During the course of the morning several groups of pupils came to look at the progress of the transit. I have to say that not everyone seemed to share the same excitement as the older mortals of the FitzWimarc firm.
