Rites of Passage

Rites of Passage are those rituals and ceremonies which take place at important stages in a person's journey through life. The four generally recognised times are birth, becoming an adult, marriage and death.

They are important, not only for the individual concerned, but also for the family and the religious community.
Each of these times is also celebrated or commemorated in a non-religious way.

Initial Task

Look in newspapers, magazines and other relevant sources to find evidence of how births, special birthdays, marriages and deaths are celebrated or marked in a non-religious or secular way.
Now visit the individual pages as listed on the left.
