Run Mouse Over Photograph!!!
The Third Letter to FitzMaffs
by E. Hagon
Dear Sir,
No doubt prisoner Jones has now been removed to the punishment block. However, in case there has been a reprieve, he might be interested in the following:
- It is impossible for the Anglo-Saxon mind to appreciate the benefits for those who live close to the Aegean. Thus it was possible for Alexander to conquer the known world wearing only a helmet, the Spartans to defend their honour with just a sword,
and a Greek to run the first 4 minute mile clad in only a laurel wreath. Of course, such feats are not possible on modern battlefields (like Twickenham) although I understand one young lady did bare all (well, nearly all) in the interest of honour and victory.
- The Assyrians, some decades before Archimedes, had cracked the problem of the sub-atomic fluxion and the differential atom, facts of course known to E. Cannon. Prisoner Jones can check this in his handy book of references.
- All material submitted to a quality magazine like Fitz Maffs must be thoroughly researched. However, the editor requires brevity and this accounts for the concise nature of E. Cannon's work, but presents no problems to mathematics students who are used to "reading between the lines."
Finally, it is gratifying to note that prisoner Jones religiously reads his copy of Fitz Maffs.
