Cross-Curricular IssuesEnglish: general literacy skills such as reading, comprehension, expression, grammar, spelling, punctuation; use of poetry.IT: possibility of using computer skills in DTP, WP and multi-media use for research etc.; Internet, e-mail; CD-ROMs (See Resources lists). Links to useful websites which may be suitable is to be found on the RE website on our web link page. Science: Problem solving, search for answers; sex education; life and death issues; science and religion. Classical Studies: Some use of CS resources for RS, e.g. Quo Vadis film (early Christians in Rome) Drama: always the possibility of using drama skills. CDT/Art: Models and D & R skills. Variety of artwork and display skills. Sometimes Art Dept. uses religious topics. Food: festival foods prepared in RE and Food lessons. Music: especially in conjunction with 'festivals work', symbolism. Geography: World problems, especially population and famine. Same topic but different approaches. History: local church has clear links with many historical eras. Judaism and holocaust. Pilgrimage - Henry II and Beckett; Richard I and Crusades/ history of Islamic World; history of the Reformation period. Egyptian history and religion. The two World Wars (moral issues/world problems and conscientious objectors). MFLs: word comparisons, derivations and background customs. Meanings of names, technical terms from other religions based in other languages (e.g. dukkha, zakah, seva, kosher etc.) Citizenship: many issues overlap with Religious Education. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural: again, these cross-curricular themes are very much part of the religious education syllabus. |
