Concepts, Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge

Planning learning experiences in terms of concepts, attitudes, skills and knowledge will help to establish priorities for what we are trying to achieve in R.E. and for the way we structure that planning.

CONCEPTS: identify the concept(s) it is hoped to develop through a topic. This will give us the key idea which supports the learning experiences.

ATTITUDES AND PERSONAL QUALITIES: these are the attitudes we hope the learning experience will promote - of great importance in R.E. Along with all other subjects and aspects of the curriculum, R.E. uses and promotes certain attitudes and personal qualities that are appropriate to our culturally diverse and democratic society. It also encourages pupils to form and articulate their own views and responses in the light of their learning. These include appreciation and respect, attentiveness and interest, critical openness, curiosity and questioning, imagination and creativity, perception and insight, self-esteem, sensitivity and spiritual awareness.

SKILLS: are those particular skills that the pupils will need to help them assimilate the concepts and attitudes. Children may need time to develop such skills.

KNOWLEDGE: selecting the information or content from the wide range available, which will best help to develop the concepts, attitudes and skills identified.

Pupil Profiles

These are published each year to enable teachers to monitor progress against DE and CAT test scores, KS results as well as previous grades.
