RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT THE FITZWIMARC SCHOOL

YEAR 7 SYLLABUS

1. Introduction

Aims:

To give opportunity for pupils to examine their own religious ideas, to air and discuss possible prejudices and presuppositions. To explain briefly the nature of Religious Education.

'Implicit' Ideas:

Ideas encountered in religion - God, life after death, cycles of birth, life, death and renewal; ultimate questions and answers; who are we? What do we believe? Why? ... and so on.

Concepts:

Implicit: belief; destiny; mystery; origin
Explicit: afterlife; creation; faith; God; samsara; reincarnation

Content and Suggestions

  1. Pupils' own views about God, life after death, and the Bible. Discuss and encourage frank views from pupils with few ideas fed in at this stage. Try an 'association of ideas' game to get started, going round the class, thus involving everyone. "My Views about..." written work after discussion of each topic. (Also gives practice in the FitzWimarc way of setting out work).
  2. Attitudes of some religions on these topics.
