Holy Trinity Church

General View from High Street

Rayleigh Holy Trinity Church is situated in a commanding position, with London Hill on its west side and the High Street dropping away on its south side.

It is thought to be the second church built on the site, materials from the first church probably having been used in building the walls of the present church. It is indeed interesting to walk around the church noting the different building materials that have been used.

The church does have some of the remains of an old Norman font, which was probably used in the earlier church.  Inside the church, on the north wall, is a list of rectors of Rayleigh. The earliest of these was Henry de Saracen who was rector in 1310 (before this present church was built)

We are grateful to the Rector of Rayleigh, Rev. David Parrott, and his team, for allowing our pupils to visit the church in Year 7 and also for the Christmas carol services each year.
