The wooden pulpit is the place from which the rector or priest gives his sermon. The sermon is a brief talk
based on the Bible or a Christian theme, given to the congregation. From the raised level of the pulpit, the
preacher can be seen and heard better.
Nowadays, with amplification systems, induction loop systems for people with hearing aids, and with the help of radio microphones, maybe the pulpit is not as necessary as it used to be. Sometimes, for instance, the people might be addressed from the chancel steps.
