Holy Trinity Church

The Lectern

This lectern, which is made of brass, is shaped like an eagle which is standing on an orb. The back of the eagle bears a large copy of the Bible and it is from this place that the Bible is read during church services. Some say that many lecterns are in the form of an eagle because the eagle is a strong bird, able to fly long distances. The orb represents the world and the whole thing is a picture of the Christian idea that the Good News (contained in the Bible, the Gospel) should be taken into all the world. The Christian faith is for all people and all nations.

This particular brass lectern was presented to the church in memory of Thomas W. Offin, who was Rector's Churchwarden for fifty years.
